Dasyblasta Surinam Cherry

This wild Surinam Cherry, possibly even a separate species, is a standout for its small, red fruits that look a lot like the common types. It grows naturally in the far south of Brazil, which might explain its impressive cold tolerance. Mature plants have been known to handle temperatures down to 14°F (-10°C), making it one of the hardiest in the Eugenia group. The leaves are usually narrower and more elongated than those of typical varieties.
