Eugenia involucrata, also known as Cherry of the Rio Grande, has a sweet, mildly tart flavor similar to a cherry or plum with subtle hints of grape or blackberry. When fully ripe, the fruit is juicy, with a pleasant balance of sweetness and acidity. The skin can be slightly astringent if eaten before peak ripeness.
It's one of the more underrated Eugenias — very tasty and highly ornamental.
