Black Sapote (Diospyros nigra)

Diospyros nigra, known as black sapote, is a type of persimmon. It's commonly referred to as chocolate pudding fruit, black soapapple, or zapote prieto in Spanish. Native to Mexico, Central America, and Colombia, this tropical fruit tree is part of a broader group of soft, edible fruits known as sapotes. Despite its name, black sapote is unrelated to white or mamey sapote. The genus Diospyros includes many other fruit-bearing trees beyond persimmons and black sapote.
