White Sapote
Evergreen Casimiroa edulis trees are mature when they reach a height of 5-16 m (16-52 ft). The leaves are palmately compound with three to five leaflets that are 6-13 cm long and 2.5-5 cm broad, with a smooth edge. The leaf petiole is around 10-15 cm long.
The fruit of the tree is an ovoid drupe that measures 5-10 cm in diameter. Its thin skin is inedible and changes from green to yellow when the fruit is ripe. The pulp inside is edible and comes in various flavors that can range from bland to banana-like, peach, pear, or vanilla flan. The color of the pulp can be either creamy-white or beige-yellow, depending on the type of fruit. Its texture is smooth, similar to a ripe avocado. The fruit contains one to five seeds, which are reputed to have narcotic properties.
